Bone Scan at the Beach

Sometimes I can be a bit of a blonde! You know how I was complaining that the bone scan that I am having done today is a 3 hour bone scan? Well, actually it is about a 5 hour bone scan. But here is the deal... I AM ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE HOSPITAL DURING A PORTION OF IT! So, I'm not actually sitting on the table having this radioactive MRI type x-ray done for three or four hours straight or anything!

I arrived at the hospital this morning just a few minutes before 8:00am and by 8:30, I was out and on my way to Starbucks. I have to admit, I'm feeling pretty cool right now sitting in the cafe sipping on my triple venti skinny vanilla latte while I blog from my laptop. I channeling my inner Carrie from "Sex and the City."

Of course, Carrie would be at a bar instead of Starbucks and she would be sipping on a Cosmopolitan instead of coffee.

Anyway...

The first part of the scan is done... the technician injected me with the radioactive material (Tc99m MDP to be exact) and took a few preliminary scans of my foot. She then told me that I was free to go as long as I was back at the hospital by noon. The next scan will take a full hour, and then I should be done!

Do you know what this means? I have an entire morning to myself without a wonderfully hyper toddler chasing after me. And the best part... the hospital that is doing my bone scan is located about 10 blocks from the beach. So, once I am done with my coffee and have finished browsing all of my favorite blogs, I'm heading down to the beach to soak up some sun and enjoy the peace and quiet!

Reagan is spending the day with her Daddy, and he decided that it would be fun for her if he took her to work with him. When I left the house this morning, she was dressed for work, complete with her hard hat, and was grinning from ear to ear. She told me that she was the new "boss lady" and that she was going to tell all of her Daddy's workers to "Get to work! Cut that grass! Pull those weeds!" I'm sure she is probably the only one who would be able to get away with bossing those men around that way. She'll have them all wrapped around her little finger before their first break!

Oh! Apparently I could be considered a bit of a nuclear threat if I tried to cross the border in the next 48 hours. The x-ray technician gave me a slip of paper that would allow me to cross the border with the explanation that I am not in fact harboring some sort of nuclear weapon inside my body... it is simply radioactive material used for a bone scan. Thank goodness, because that could have been an exciting encounter with the border patrol should I decide to head down to the States in the next couple of days!

That's it for now. I'm off to the beach and then back to the hospital to finish off my scan. I'm not sure if I will get the results today, but I'm hoping to know what is going on with my foot sooner rather than later. It has started to feel much better after using the boot and taking almost 2 weeks off now from running. I'm itching to get back to my workout routine, so I'm praying for good news!

Tiffany, hurry into a dark room and see if you GLOW!!!

You're like a walking, human glowstick! How retro are you?!

Enjoy the beach. Don't get stuck and don't steal any buoys!

It's rainy here so the beach wouldn't be fun for me, but you have a great day!!

Hope you enjoy the day, and hope you get results soon.

HeeHee! Yes, we can meet up another time. But it would be fun to explain to the border patrol about your radioactivity. I'd even meet you at the border and take pictures of the looks on their faces, and then you being hauled off for the strip search... :)

I hope you find out what is wrong!

Good Luck to you! How nice though that you get to have a nice day to yourself, enjoying your Starbucks and a visit to the beach! (Even if you're all radio-active!)

Isn't it funny how something that is a bit of a chore becomes like a little slice of heaven when you realize it's going to involve a slice of me-time?!

Hope it turns out well :)

Don't go crossing any borders in the next 48 hours!!!! Love that she is the new "boss lady"!

I used to go off to work w/my Dad too - but I only had my bros to boss around and they didn't listen too well. ;) I'm sure she'll have a really good time. ;)
I had a thyroid scan once and I bet they said 5 hour too - or take these pills - come back in an hour and then in 24 - something like that. It was 4 radioactive pills - and it seemed to have kicked my thyroid OFF - from Hyper to Hypo - ah well - hypo runs in the fam.
I hope you have good news on your foot - and that boot does help. My hubby has used one of those for his achilles heel ...
I'll be praying for good results.

The life of a mom. The only time you get a morning off is if you're radioactive

Oh, how I would love to be at the beach, but the bone scan not so much.
The nurse giving you a slip to cross the border was so funny.
Enjoy your somewhat time off today. I know how exhausting toddlers can be.
Have a great day!

I had that radioactive dye once -- did it feel creepy, or what?!

Hope it all went well! Isn't it funny when you find all of a sudden you have free time to yourself, you almost to feel wierd and panicky and go "what am I going to do?" before you soon figure it out and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I have a dream. Can I share it with you. It includes me, Keri, Sara, and your radioactive self sitting on the beach together, chatting and laughing like old friends.

Do you think this might happen someday?

Enjoy your time of solitude. Soak up the sun and try not to make a run for the border.

Isn't it funny how the chaos of motherhood can turn the concept of a bone scan into a semi-vacation away from the kids? LOL

Hope you enjoyed your Starbucks on the beach!!

I *always* channel Carrie while I blog away on my Mac. Well, Carrie plus three kids and about 80 pounds. :)

And, oh, time alone-- you can't beat that. Even if it includes time at a hospital.
