No, he wasn't complaining that I don't do laundry often enough or that I don't put the clothes away properly. He was mad that I even bothered to WASH HIS JEANS.
This is pretty much verbatim for how it all went down...
Ryan: "Hey Tiff, where are my jeans that were laying on the floor beside the bed?"
Me: "I threw them in the wash with the rest of the dirty clothes. They'll be done before we go out tonight."
Ryan: "Why did you wash them? They weren't dirty."
Me: "Well, I assumed since they were crumpled up on the floor and had been that way for two days now that they were dirty. I mean, if they were clean why weren't they hanging up in the closet?"
Ryan: "I can't believe that you just waste money like that!"
Me: slightly confused now "What does money have to do with washing your jeans?"
Ryan: "How do you think the water bill gets paid? With MONEY!"
Me: starting to get more and more annoyed "I know how the bills get paid in this house because I am the one who does our banking. Again, what does that have to do with me washing your jeans?"
Ryan: "I only wore them one time. They weren't dirty. You are wasting water and money by washing them!"
People he was serious. He was really arguing at this point. And yes, he has more than one pair of jeans!
I just gave up. I walked away shaking my head. I mean, this is the same man who told me not to fire the maid (which I did anyway) because we could afford to pay her to clean our house. Yet we don't have enough money for me to do laundry?! Can someone please explain that logic to me?!
It all boils down the fact that he didn't want to admit that he should have either hung the jeans back up in the closet or put them in the dirty clothes hamper instead of leaving them crumpled up on the floor!
I am assuming that this logic goes hand-in-hand with putting the milk carton back in the refrigerator when there is not even barely half a sip left and putting the cereal box back in the cupboard when there is only two little crumbs left as well!
FYI... this logic is often confused with laziness in my opinion!

We argue about laundry all the time. I feel your pain. I either shouldn't have washed the pajama bottoms or didn't do the white shirts for his uniform right. Eventually I let him do the laundry for a while and he saw my side. Worked like a charm. I don't think that would magically make the jeans jump off the floor though.
Oh my goodness! We have had this fight, too. More than once. As if I am suppose to know that the pile of clothes on the floor beside his side of the bed are NOT dirty! Oops, my bad? Now, I just make him do his own laundry. ;) (Sometimes..)
Wow! I totally understand what you mean. We've had this same argument more then a few times. Ugh! Men. :)
I'd have said "Well, I had ALMOST a full load, and thought I could throw your jeans in on top for FREE, so why not get a FREE washing for your almost-clean jeans, HONEY?" and I'd have said it so sarcastically, that it would've only escalated the fight, but OH WELL! ha ha ha
Men!
Okay - my hubby and I have this conversation often. We have one of those stands - where you can put a suitcoat on with pants on a bar below it - you may see it in a Nordstrom store. I got it from my mom and dad ... it's a great place to put clothes that are worn once or twice BUT DON'T dare put it in the closet. The ironing board that's leaning against the closet is ALSO a GREAT place for putting clothes. I do the smell test - I know EWWWW! But that's how I determine IF something needs cleaning. Then I'm not accused. Also, does your hubby have only ONE pair of jeans - you may have been able to distract him with that argument. Don't worry - you'll look back on this someday and chuckle. I do - when I think of my hubby telling me to 'BE MORE careful when sorting and pairing up his sox' - hey the lighting in our house wasn't that good ... oh - and 'where are ALL my ties and you do this ON PURPOSE!' ... "Um - don't you have like 10 ties & they're all the same??" "Ya - I LOVE tormenting you huny!" NOT!
Also, maybe it's time for some NEW jeans - ... you know how they stretch out after the 1st wearing and then go back to really tight. :) Just some thots ... :) Shake it OFF! :)
I can not tell you how many times we have had this conversation:0) I laughed out loud becuase I could hear my own words. God love 'em . Or as you know we say in the South - Bless his heart:)
Men. Just admit you're wrong!! Thanks soooooo much for taking the time to vote! Have a great weekend, it should be SUNNY!!
I think my husband operates on the same logic. It's on the Y chromosome or something.
Oh girl, that sounds exactly like a conversation my husband and I had about laundary.
"Where are my gym pants?" he asks. Duh, in the washer! And he starts to argue that they weren't dirty and of course I say then why were they crumpled up on the floor!
Seriously, men are so weird! His excuse for leaving clothes on the floor is that he is going to wear them that week so he wants to be able to find them again.
grrrr!
Too funny! You guys sound like us.
I hope we are still on for next week, because of my computer issues I cannot check my e-mail. I (hope I) will have it resolved by Monday, so I'll touch base with you then.
Have a good weekend!

Oh geez. Perhaps our hubby's are related. I find those cereal boxes with 2 crumbs and empty cartons in my fridge all the time.
I agree. Lazy.
Girl I get ya! My hubs throws his jeans in a pile as well, drives me insane.!
Mine does the same thing, except he gets two or three "favorite" outfits and he'll wear them and lay them over the ironing board and save them for the next day, and the next day, and the next day. . . I finally throw everything in the wash b/c I'm tired of moving piles of clothes every time I need to iron, and then he's upset because "that stuff wasn't dirty."
Yep. That is ALL men. I guess we all have to suck it up and deal huh? As ugly as it is...
Can we switch? Mine has 3 favorite pairs of work shorts & at least 1 pair must be clean at all times.
Oh that's a classic! My husband hangs his clothes on the floor too. Now I just leave them there to grow mouldy.
Totally understand, this arguement. Donnie would where the same pair of jeans for days if I would let me. He always says, "I am a prinicipal I will be inside all day I can't get the jeans dirty." I say you are a principal show the kids good hygiene practices. Thanks for saying what us other wives are thinking.
Sounds like someone needs to roll up his sleeves and chip in....
That's how I deal with a complainer. Assign them a task. Helps cut down on the whining and gets the house clean.
This is the type fo circular logic that doesnt warrant discussion... Just smile and say, "Yes, dear!"
Are you sure you weren't eavesdropping at my house? Because I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion verbatim. In my book, if they're left crumpled on the floor, THEY'RE DIRTY. And after telling Gary this umpteen times, I'm still not sure he gets it yet.... Good luck! :)
~Keri
We have had the EXACT same discussion countless times. Now I just throw everything on his closet floor. If it's not in the hamper, I'm not cleaning it and he can figure it out!
LOL! As I've told my hubby before...if he doesn't like the way the laundry gets done, then he can do it HIMSELF! ;) By the way, I've gifted you with an award over at my blog. So, go ahead and grab it and enjoy the superstardom. :)
We have had that fight... my hubby likes to be dirty or something, because sometime I KNOW his pants haven't been washed, but he still hates when they're getting washed and he can't get to them.
I argue with my wife about laundry every now and then. The thing that drives me crazy is that I find my clothes in the dryer - still soaking wet!
that is HILARIOUS!!! jack has a very similar pile of clothes beside his bed..."where are the shorts and white shirt that were beside the bed?"...yep, we've had that very same argument. although, he didn't think to accuse me of wasting money by doing his laundry:)
